What are boxed wagers?

You can "box" a bet to increase your chances of winning. With a boxed wager, you are essentially betting on every possible combination of a set of selected horses.

For example, if you've determined who the best horses in the race are but aren't sure which horse will win and which will finish second, you may want to place a boxed exacta. For example, if you box the #4 and #5 horses, your bet will be graded as a win if the first two finishers are 4-5 or 5-4. To increase your chances of winning, you can box more than two horses; however, the cost of your bet goes up with each horse you add to the box.
