Sports Betting Alternatives

First the NBA shuttered their doors, then March Madness was cancelled. Soon after, the NHL followed suit, putting their season on pause. The major league sports world is quietly waiting for the spread of COVID-19 to pass, and no one knows exactly how long it will take.

This hiatus is creating a market for sports betting alternatives for the first time ever. We’re exploring different countries in the world in search of exciting new opportunities for sports betting. We’ve found basketball and soccer leagues that are still operating amidst the chaos. eSports is also having a moment right now. We’ve checked in with UFC and boxing, as they’re better suited for adapting to the social distancing measures recommended by the government. And we can’t forget about our Politics and Entertainment pages that let you weigh in on how you think the presidential election will play out come fall.

Basketball Betting from Around the World

Basketball can be found in the far reaches of Russia, where both the MLBL and Liga PRO 3x3 is still running; we have basketball betting odds for them all. Meanwhile, championship ball is happening in Taiwan, where the Super Basketball League (SBL) is alive and well. Soccer Betting from Around the World

Pandemic or not, you can be sure that soccer will continue to take place somewhere in the world, and right now, that somewhere is Belarus. The players have been advised to increase measures for hygiene, but beyond that, they’re playing on. The Belarus Premier League (the Vysshaya Liga) kicked off on March 19 with a matchup between Energetik BGU and BATE Borisov in front of hundreds of fans. This Saturday, they have four games slated, including a matchup between last year’s champion Dynanmo Brest who will likely squash the underdogs, Minsk.

Now’s a good time to get in your long-term soccer betting picks too because the betting public hasn’t swayed the value. Odds for major events like FIFA World Cup 2022, Copa America 2021 and UEFA Euro 2021 are available in our futures section. France is a +500 favourite to repeat as champs in Qatar.

UFC/Boxing Odds Still Available

UFC may not seem very “alternative” anymore, but they are uniquely positioned to stay relevant despite the COVID-19 obstacles. It’s feasible that UFC events can remain active, with no crowd, and proper screening for fighters. And although Fight Night 171 was inevitably cancelled, UFC’s president Dana White is hellbent on making sure UFC 249 takes place. This is the fight between undefeated lightweight champ, Khabib Nurmagomedov and No. 1-ranked lightweight fighter Tony Ferguson.

If White and the UFC manage to pull off the April 18 event, they’ll likely have no problem with the following ones too. Odds for UFC 250 which will feature a fight between Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo in Sao Paulo are available for betting at press time. The No. 1 female pound-for-pound fighter, Amanda Nunes, is also expected to defend one of her belts at UFC 250. Further down the odds board, odds for UFC 251 and Fight Night 176 are also available.

On the boxing side of things, four-division world champ, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is going to take part in a unification bout for the WBO and WBA super middleweight titles against Billy Joe Saunders on May 2. Betting odds are up for this highly-anticipated event in addition to others.
