Super Bowl Futures: Titans Rise, Chiefs Fall

The Tennessee Titans-Kansas City Chiefs matchup was one of the most important games of the week, rife with playoff implications. With the final play resulting in a game-changing 53-yard field goal, the game turned out to be one of the most entertaining matchups, too. The Titans’ win has bumped them up the futures market, whereas the Chiefs took a tumble.

Moving On Up

Tennessee Titans
This Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +5000
Last Week: +7500

After beating the Kansas City Chiefs 19-17, the Titans have inched closer to the playoffs. If they win in Jacksonville next week and at home against the Houston Texans in Week 17, they’ll go to qualifications for the postseason, and if they manage to make it through, they’ll enter the playoffs on a five-game winning streak, having won nine of their last 12.

New York Giants
This Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +1600
Last Week: +2000

Back-to-back wins against two of the top teams in the NFC have increased the Giants’ odds in the futures market. On Sunday, the Giants beat the Detroit Lions 17-6, which means they’ve now given up just 13 points in their last two games combined. The Giants have the second-most wins in the NFC (10), trailing only the 12-2 Dallas Cowboys – a team they’ve defeated twice already.

Moving On Down

Kansas City Chiefs
Last Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +900
This Week: +1600

The Chiefs fell to the Titans on Sunday, blowing a 14-0 lead at home. The loss resulted in the Chiefs falling from second to fifth in the AFC. While they’re still well-positioned to make the playoffs, their path to the Super Bowl is now far more challenging. They might have to hit the road to play in New England or Pittsburgh, instead of potentially hosting one or two playoff games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Last Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +4000
This Week: +6600

The Bucs played well in Dallas, but still ended up losing. The loss bumped them out of the final playoff spot in the NFC to seventh. They’re still just a half-game out of the playoffs, but their Super Bowl odds dropped because they no longer control their own destiny. They’ll have to win their final two games and hope for the Washington Redskins to stumble.

Updated Super Bowl Futures Top Three

1. New England Patriots (+220): The Patriots took care of business in Denver with a relatively easy 16-3 win.

2. Dallas Cowboys (+500): The Cowboys had a close call at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, but still earned the win. The 9-5 Detroit Lions are up next.

3. Seattle Seahawks (+550): After beating the Los Angeles Rams 24-3, the Seahawks inched from +650 up to +550. The Detroit Lions’ loss to the Giants also helped Seattle’s case. The Seahawks are now second seed in the NFC.
