For a second straight week, the Green Bay Packers are the biggest riser in the NFL futures market. But despite their recent progress, they’re still not in a playoff position. They’ll need to close the season on a serious hot streak if they hope to continue on after Week 17.

Moving On Up

Green Bay Packers
This Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +1600
Last Week: +2500

Of the 12 teams sitting on top of the Super Bowl futures, the Green Bay Packers are the only ones who would be on the outside of the playoffs if they started today. The oddsmakers have faith, though, as the Packers have moved up to +1600 on the board.

The Packers have shot up from +5000 over the last two weeks thanks to consecutive wins over the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks. The Packers finish up the year with the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, and if they manage to claim three more victories, they’ll enter the playoffs on a six-game winning streak.

New York Giants
This Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +2000
Last Week: +3300

One week after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Giants rebounded with a 10-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys, ending Dallas’ 11-game winning streak. The Giants have now won seven of their last eight games and look as good as anyone in the NFC.

Moving On Down

Indianapolis Colts
Last Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +1800
This Week: +6600

Last Sunday, the Colts had a chance to take control of the AFC South and put themselves in position for the playoffs. Instead, they lost at home to the Houston Texans and now face an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Quarterback Andrew Luck, has been a turnover machine of late, with six interceptions in his last five games. It’s tough for a team to win consistently when their quarterback turns over the ball so often.

Oakland Raiders
Last Week’s Super Bowl Odds: +1000
This Week: +1600

The Raiders tumbled in the futures market after a shaky performance in Kansas City. Quarterback Derek Carr, who had been in the conversation for MVP, looks like he blew his chances after suffering through his worst performance of the year. More importantly, the Raiders’ Super Bowl hopes took a big hit, as they had previously been tied for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They’ll have a tough time getting higher than fifth seed in the AFC now that they’ve lost the season series to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Updated Super Bowl Futures Top Three

1. New England Patriots (+225): The Patriots saw their main competitors – the Cowboys and Seahawks – lose on Sunday, which fortified New England’s position as Super Bowl favourites.

2. Dallas Cowboys (+500): The New York Giants snapped the Cowboys’ 11-game winning streak on Sunday, when they beat them for the second time this season.

3. Seattle Seahawks (+650): After losing two of their last three, the Seahawks are now third seed in the NFC.
