Fresh off of the four-city international press tour that featured everything from trash talk to a bold prediction, the Mayweather-McGregor event is set to take place on August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas. We preview the latest fight odds and prop bets for what has been dubbed the ‘Superfight’ between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor.

Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, a 28-year-old from Ireland, said he’ll knock his opponent out within four rounds – a big claim considering he’s entering unfamiliar territory when he steps into the ring against arguably the best defensive boxer of all time, 41-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. McGregor last boxed competitively as a 16-year-old, when he was the All-Ireland Champion. Since entering the world of professional mixed martial arts in 2008, however, McGregor has gained international recognition and became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles in two weight categories simultaneously. He also holds a 21-3 (18 KOs) career record. Will that be enough to go up against the recently unretired professional puncher, Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr.

This is Boxing, Not MMA

Mayweather Jr. retired in September 2015 with an undefeated 49-0 (26 KOs) record. A natural boxer, Mayweather is thought to have a significant advantage in the coming bout, as UFC President, Dana White, confirmed that the fight would follow traditional 12-round, boxing rules. Oddsmakers agree, as they’ve staked the American as a –550 favourite to win, while McGregor sits at +375. In fact, Mayweather has been knocked down only once in his professional career, a match he came back to win by unanimous decision.

Despite those lopsided match result odds, McGregor won’t go down easily. When it comes to the Exact Method of Victory, Mayweather is favourited to win by Unanimous Decision (+225). The next favoured odds is both Technical Knockout and knockout (+300) by Mayweather. When it comes to round betting, the most likely result, according to oddsmakers, is a Floyd Mayweather Jr win between Rounds 7 and 8 (+650) – not within four rounds like McGregor predicted.

But of course, you can still back the Irishman’s prediction by betting on “The Conor McGregor Inside 4 Rounds Special” where McGregor’s +700 to win in round 1, 2, 3 or 4. Not much is known about McGregor’s boxing style, but bettors are clearly considering the potential for him to land a heavy blow to the elder Mayweather early in the match, and shock the world with a victory.

Both fighters will be up against unfamiliar opponents, so there is a real chance that fans should expect the unexpected on August 26. Regardless of the outcome, both fighters are expected to earn massive paycheques, with Dana White suggesting Mayweather Jr. would bring home approximately $100 million, and McGregor $75 million.
