Week 6 of the NFL regular season features a number of rivalry games that could result in new divisional leaders. We’ll start with a look at the Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings divisional game.
Green Bay Packers (-3) at Minnesota Vikings, Sunday at 1 PM ET
The 4-1 Green Bay Packers travel to Minnesota to take on the 3-2 Vikings in an NFC North divisional game. After a dramatic finish over the Dallas Cowboys in a Week 5 road victory, Aaron Rodgers and company have catapulted themselves up the Super Bowl 52 odds list to +500. While the Packers are the -3 favourites in this Sunday’s matchup, Minnesota too, is coming off of an exciting 20-17 road win over the Chicago Bears.
In Week 5, Rodgers once again showed fans why he’s among the best, as he led the Packers’ offense down the field in a classic fourth quarter drive to victory. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson also continued his standout campaign, tallying another touchdown against the Cowboys; he currently sits tied for second in the league with six touchdowns. The Packers have won five of their last six games in Minnesota, so recent history favours the Packers.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs (-5), Sunday at 4:25 PM ET
The undefeated Chiefs welcome the AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers to town on Sunday. Kansas City remains the only unbeaten team in the NFL. They defeated the Houston Texans 42-34 last week in a high-scoring affair that saw quarterback Alex Smith throw for three touchdowns, and rookie phenom, Kareem Hunt record yet another 100-yard game. Hunt leads all running backs with 609 rushing yards through the first five weeks of the regular season.
The Steelers are coming off of an embarrassing 30-9 loss to the 3-2 Jacksonville Jaguars. Pittsburgh’s offense failed to get anything going, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had one of the worst games of his career, throwing for five interceptions and no touchdowns. The veteran Steelers will be a motivated squad heading into KC, but motivation can only get them so far.
New England Patriots (-10) at New York Jets, Sunday at 1 PM ET
New England remains atop the futures odds board as favourites to win Super Bowl LII (+450). They’ll be up against a 3-2 New York Jets team that is tied for first in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills and the visiting Patriots. The AFC East has been much more competitive than fans predicted in the pre-season, but Week 6 may provide some clarity in an unclear division.
The Patriots’ defense continues to rank last in the league in yards given up per game, with 447.2, which is nearly 50 yards per game more than the second-worst defense in the NFL. Good thing the Pats have Tom Brady under centre. The face of New England leads all other quarterbacks in passing yards this season with 1,702.
